For our first issue of the monthly energiseYou Newsletter David Morgan Jones has written an article on his experiences at one of the energiseYou DSE workstation assessments clients.
Parachuting into an office and whizzing round an office of desk workers and assessing their workstation needs giving a personalised service. My first Workstation Assessment within this client was; a high level manager who was experiencing constant lower back pain, RSI in his left shoulder and wrist plus various medical issues. While observing the employee at his desk it became obvious very quickly how crooked he sat in a chair, which had probably not been adjusted since its testing at the factory! This crookedness was encouraged by the incorrect positioning of his desk equipment and subsequently a tendency to lean heavily on his left elbow. I adjusted the chair to maximise support and educated the employee on best posture. I caught up with this employee a few weeks after, he thanked me for my help since he was now experiencing significantly less back & shoulder pain, all from a few simple and logical changes. This gave me a real sense of achievement and proved how effective and valuable a personalised DSE workstation assessments can be to individuals and companies. As a practitioner I often see the same workstation related symptoms in my clients. DSE workstation assessments are a fantastic way to help get to the root cause of much of these symptoms. Also since companies are legally obliged to provide DSE Workstation Assessments for their staff, this should mean more employees within more companies can benefit from this great service, and employee wellbeing will improve.
